SEBI is introducing the Closing Auction Session (CAS) for F&O-enabled stocks from August 3, 2026, bringing one of the biggest changes to the market close in recent years.
The current VWAP-based closing price mechanism will be replaced by an auction-based process designed to improve price discovery and make closing prices more representative of actual market demand and supply.
The change will affect how the official closing price is determined, alter trading timings for eligible stocks, and have important implications for stock F&O traders, expiry-day strategies, and positional traders.
