To pick up on something means to notice something subtle. For example, I picked up on her tone. She didn't say no directly, but I picked up on the hesitation. Repeat, I picked up on her tone. Next, to read into. To read into something means to look for a deeper meaning, sometimes too much. For example, am I reading too much into this or did he sound annoyed? Repeat. Am I reading too much into this? Next, to brush off. To brush someone off means to dismiss or ignore them. For example, when I asked for feedback, he brushed me off and said, we'll see. Repeat, he brushed me off.
