This video series, “Mainely Resilient: How Maine Farmers Stay Profitable,” highlights Maine farms using U.S. Department of Agriculture programs to manage farm risk.
In this video, Chris Howard, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, speaks with Adam Meyer, owner of Smith & Meyer Heirloom Apple Farm in Princeton, Maine. Meyer discusses using Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program insurance to strengthen his business.
He also highlights:
- Establishing a good relationship with the USDA
- Keeping good records and developing his own system
- Diversifying income streams
- Using the Farm Service Agency
- Using the Natural Resources Conservation Service
- Using the Emergency Conservation Program
