Synopsis
King Ravan, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, possessed profound knowledge of the four Vedas and the six Shastras. His ultimate aspiration was to dominate the demigods and gain control over the entire Universe.
He renounced all worldly desires and went to Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva and performed extreme penance for a thousand years. Ravan pulled out his guts and used it as strings to play a veena from it. He began singing Shiva tandav stotram.
Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva blessed him with extreme power and a divine sword. Armed with Power and Might, Ravan waged numerous battles with the devatas and emerged victorious across the universe.
