This week the moon moves through the death and rebirth cycle of the Zodiac..
At the end of the zodiac, the last three nakshatras in Pisces describe the soul’s final transition before a new cycle begins: Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. Together they form a powerful symbolism of death, surrender and safe passage before Aries begins the journey again.
Purva Bhadrapada spans the end of Aquarius and the beginning of Pisces. Its symbol includes the front legs of a cot, or funeral bed. Here, the soul receives a sudden lightning strike of truth, a glimpse of its eternal nature. This is like being placed on the front legs of the funeral bed: we are not fully “gone,” but we can no longer live in the old way. Inspiration, satori-like flashes and intense awakenings occur, but they are often not yet integrated.
Uttara Bhadrapada follows, in mid-Pisces, and its symbol includes the back legs of the cot. Now the bed is complete. Here the soul becomes determined to go all the way into truth, not content with mere glimpses. This is where something truly “dies”: our resistance, our old ego structures, our fear of the depths. Ruled by Saturn and the serpent of the deep, Ahir Budhnya, this nakshatra drills down into the unconscious, stabilizing and deepening the awakening that began in Purva Bhadra.
After this inner death, Revati occupies the very end of Pisces. Its deity is Pushan, the divine shepherd, who leads animals and souls home after a long journey. Revati shows the gentle, devoted guidance that carries us through the final stretch. Here we surrender, allow ourselves to be led, and rest in protection after the intense transformations of the Bhadrapadas. It is the completion of the zodiacal pilgrimage.
Once this cycle of death, surrender and return is complete, Aries begins the zodiac anew. A fresh spark of individuality arises, carrying the subtle wisdom gained through Purva Bhadra, Uttara Bhadra and Revati into a new life chapter, a new incarnation of the soul’s journey.
