It’s time to chat about my 2021 reading challenge! I broke my own personal reading record and we’re going to chat about why that’s not necessarily a good thing (hi, stress…) as well as some authors I’ve been binge reading! Author: Scarlett Peckham
Book Recs: The Rakess; The Duke I Tempted
Highlights: historical romance; super feminist; her stories feature strong female characters and alt romance (including BDSM); kicky dialogue
Author: KJ Charles
Book Recs: An Unseen Attraction; Any Old Diamonds; Wanted, A Gentleman
Highlights: historical romance; LGBTQIA+ characters; some neuro-divergent characters; some characters of color; the loveliest of love stories
Author: Cat Sebastian
Book Recs: Unmasked by the Marquess; A Little Light Mischief; A Gentleman Never Keeps Score
Highlights: historical romance; LGBTQIA+ characters and depictions of non-heteronormative relationships between opposite sex (including non-binary) characters; realistic and heartwarming relationships (often featuring class differences)

Book Recs: Work For It; Get a Life, Chloe Brown; A Girl Like Her
Highlights: features characters of color; neuro-divergent characters; characters with anxiety, depression; some LGBTQIA+ characters; modern romance with lots of snark (in the best way)
Author: Jeannie Lin
Book Recs: The Lotus Palace; Butterfly Swords
Highlights: historical romance in China (often featuring class differences); likable but realistic characters; strong female characters
Author: Alyssa Cole (*I thought of her while I was editing as I read most of these in 2020 not 2021)
Book Recs: An Extraordinary Union; A Princess in Theory; Can’t Escape Love
Highlights: features characters of color; mostly modern romance featuring royalty (but Extraordinary Union is historical; during the Civil War in the US); some neuro-divergent or disabled characters; some LGBTQIA+ characters
It was hard to boil these authors down to just the highlights…I hope I didn’t miss anything big but the bottom line is: if you like diverse romance with happy endings…all of these are worth a read!
