Rolling through one of Brooklyn’s most iconic spots, today I’m checking out the roller skating rink at Prospect Park, better known as the LeFrak Center at Lakeside. This is one of the few outdoor roller rinks in NYC, sitting right in the middle of a massive 500+ acre park, and it definitely has a unique vibe you won’t find at your typical indoor rink.
The rink itself is open-air with both covered and outdoor sections, giving you a ton of space to skate. It’s actually built on a smooth concrete surface instead of wood, which changes the feel a lot, but also way less forgiving if you fall. Whether you’re here for a casual session, Friday night skating, or just trying to get clips, it’s got a mix of beginners and experienced skaters all sharing the floor.
Sessions run throughout the week with daytime and night options, and they even host themed nights and events, which helps bring that classic roller rink energy outdoors. Admission is pretty affordable, and you can rent skates if you don’t have your own, making it easy for anyone to pull up and skate.
One of the biggest highlights is the setting, you’re literally skating in the heart of Brooklyn surrounded by nature, water, and the full Prospect Park atmosphere. The whole place feels more like a hangout spot than just a rink, especially in the evenings when the energy picks up.
That said, it’s not perfect. The concrete surface isn’t for everyone, and depending on the session, it can get crowded or feel a little restricted compared to more traditional rinks. But if you’re looking for an outdoor skating experience with a city-meets-park vibe, this spot is definitely worth checking out.
