The Porsche GTS badge has been around since 1963 — born on a street-legal race car that won the Targa Florio outright. Today it sits in the middle of each Porsche model range, sitting above the standard and S variants but below the Turbo and GT cars. More powerful than the base and more exploitable. The sweet spot.
The Porsche Cayenne GTS runs a twin-turbocharged V8 making 493bhp and 660Nm — chassis components sourced directly from the Cayenne Turbo GT, twin-chamber air suspension and a setup that makes it the sweetest handling SUV on sale today. Zero to 100 in 4.4 seconds. The exhaust note alone justifies the badge.
The Porsche Panamera GTS runs the same V8 in the same state of tune, 493bhp, 660Nm but in a body that weighs less and hits 100kmph in under four seconds. Top speed of 300kmph. A sports sedan that handles like a sports car, sounds better than the Cayenne and somehow makes the V8 feel even more alive.
And then there is the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS. The first-ever hybrid 911. A new 3.6-litre flat-six with an electrified single turbo that eliminates lag entirely. Instant responses, a raw exhaust note that sounds closer to a race car and a chassis with rear axle steering, active roll stabilisation and dynamic dampers that makes it telepathic through corners. Everyone worried the hybrid would make the 911 fat and soft. It did not. It made it angrier.
