Patchwork: Jane Austen and the threads of empire

Description

I had a great time talking to Kate Evans about her new book, Patchwork: A Graphic Biography of Jane Austen. We talk about Jane Austen's quilt (coverlet), fandom culture and Austen, the hardest things to draw and, above all, the colonial histories that are simultaneously everywhere in Austen's work and left out of the picture.

Here's a link to the book if you want to read more about it: https://www.versobooks.com/en-gb/products/3236-patchwork and this is Kate's website with upcoming events on it: https://www.cartoonkate.co.uk

This video was filmed in the Verso archive. Thank you to Anjali for setting this up and Ralph for filming.
