I must be losing my visual sharpness in my older age.
A number of my recent stops have been a result of an officer's "pace" and estimation of my speed (in this instance quite accurately).
Perhaps this is in part due to the fact that more patrol vehicles are SUVs and pick ups versus the older Crown Vics that were so prevalent in years past.
In any event, this officer cut me a huge break by only issuing a warning. In fact, he was also letting me know (which I knew) that the state police were out in force and advised me that I slow it down a bit.
It does sometimes work out to ask for a warning and most of the time it has worked out for me.
But there are limits. Like blowing by a patrolling vehicle at 57 mph greater than the speed limit.
I didn't get a warning on that one, but just a citation, which I suppose was a warning itself, because I could have been taken before the magistrate for that one.
It's important to stress to those who drive with radar detectors, that officers in many states are able to issue citations based upon visual estimates of speed, so a radar detector is not fool proof and apps like WAZE do not indicate patrol vehicles that are moving with traffic.
