This Friday, Oct 24th, I’m so relieved and happy to share, that my piece “I AM _” will be streaming everywhere.
You may have heard the piece in sections over the last year but it was always written and intended to be listened in its full form. The piece rests rather satisfyingly at the final time stamp of 13:33
Alongside this auditory feast is the stunning directorial debut visual feast of a music video, delivered to you by my dear friend Daria Korsak.
For the both of us, we’ve lived this on and off for 3-4 years. This offering nearly broke both Daria and myself for different reasons. What she has pulled off whether her first video or not, is an incredibly ambitious feat. From conception to delivery. What a talent. At 26 just last week, so much ahead of her…. If this hasn’t put her off entirely!
The process of music and video ended up being inextricably tied to one another the longer the song became. One day we’ll do a mini doc about this coz well… it’s a lot.
A bit torn on how you experience this for the first time. The musician and composer in me wants you to listen first, to gather your own meaning without the visual cues and associations. But as a friend and fan of Daria, I want you to see the video first if there was a chance we only got your attention once for 13:33.
Either way, I hope this song takes you to places it took me throughout a transformation mentally and physically I felt I took throughout. I had to live it to write it. An awakening. An unravelling.
Many thanks to all of you who have come to hear the demos or ‘final mixes’ over the years in various forms. This time it is really done done.
I’ve been waiting for this day as It feels like a new beginning for me creatively and publicly.
A down toolsing, as I have exhausted my desire to sit behind a screen for hours perfecting and fine tuning. An insatiable urge to conjure more presence in my life through music. Through improvisation. To practice lyrics in real time and continue a decades long itch to work on my live setup.
A lot of you have seen me with @mi.mu.gloves, @endlesssfm and the live streams that began over lockdown. Now with our Heapster.Live together space in Beta and the help of ai.Mogen to manage the interactions, I can develop the space to help me get closer and more creative in realtime. Reacting and musing with the Now, with or without you.
So i’m not done making music but I am done making music in a way that feels restrictive and constrained to me now. I’m bursting to bring the possibilities of the production aesthetic of my recordings without the 1000s of hours tweaking. I’ve become a slave to my own studio antics and need to break out of it. So many new tools and processes. Just want to study, develop, integrate and build out a creative playground. Ready for anything.
I’m excited for more collaboration and innovation that is spontaneous, authentic and imperfect.
Maybe even creating bits that inspire others to go off and mess with their improvisations into something more cohesive, if they feel the desire through @Auracles.io where I place the stems of these improvisations.
Reconnecting recently over on @endlesssfm with the artists there making jams and exploring the spontaneity of collaboration is deeply inspiring.
