Northeast Pilot handling trials & Failte pilot disembarkation

Here’s a cool video of Northeast Pilot III conducting alongside ship-handling trials with Northeast Pilots coxswain Robert, from Newport, Rhode Island in the USA aboard. During filming, we also captured the Port of Cork’s ‘Failte’ disembarking a pilot from the ‘Maersk Katarina’. The footage highlights the demanding nature of pilotage — not only for the pilot climbing down the ship’s ladder, but also for the pilot boat coxswain, crew, and the pilot vessel itself. Even in moderate sea conditions (and this wasn’t a particularly rough day), the operation can be extremely challenging.
