This video presents Jazz Prelude No. 15 from Op. 53 by Nikolaj Kapustin, part of the complete cycle of 24 Jazz Preludes composed between 1988 and 1989.
Although written in an idiom inspired by jazz harmony and rhythm, Kapustin’s music is fully notated and conceived within a classical compositional framework. Each prelude functions both as an independent miniature and as part of a larger, rigorously structured cycle.
Prelude No. 15 stands out for its distinctive rhythmic drive and its refined balance between contrapuntal clarity and idiomatic pianistic writing, requiring precise articulation, control of voicing and structural awareness.
