This song holds a very special place in my heart. It had been on my mind for a long time, and the desire to perform it naturally grew into something I simply had to bring to life.
I was at Andrei’s place when I told him about a song I had always wanted to play. Without hesitation, he pulled out the original vinyl of Dionne Warwick’s Friends In Love (1982), produced by Jay Graydon. We sat down on the couch, the needle dropped, and the first notes of the arrangement filled the room. The emotion I felt in that moment was simply overwhelming.
What you’ll hear in our interpretation is a fusion of two versions: Dionne Warwick’s 1982 recording and Sergio Mendes’ 1983 rendition, both featuring Robbie Buchanan’s unmistakable keyboard work and distinctive sonic identity.
With this project, our goal was to preserve the warm, elegant vibe of the ’80s while telling the story in our own way—as we feel it and live it.
