I used to dread wash days so much that I actually cut my hair to shorten the time it takes out of my day but as I get older I have found a greater appreciation for self care. Self care helps me to move toward the best version of myself. The saying goes that you cannot pour from an empty cup so now I just look at my wash days as filling my own cup. When I take care of myself I feel a greater sense of purpose and confidence that I can then use to channel my creativity. I like to use the time where I know I’ll be uninterrupted so that I can focus on me. Wash day does not have to take all day but I like to be intentional about the time I take for myself.
I get a sense of nostalgia using the product brands that Were used on my hair as a child. I’ve also found that these products work wonderfully on my hair by keeping it moisturized as I protective style. I get excited for wash days now. The feeling of the warm water hitting my scalp after a long week is intoxicating. Feeling my scalp free of buildup and debris as I scrub with my scalp massager is just so amazing. Knowing now that my hair can be easily detangled with the use of sections, conditioner and my Felicia leatherwood detangling brush is so satisfying.
I love the time I spend taking care of my skin as I deep condition my hair. I love the process of moisturizing my scalp and hair as I prepare my protective style for the week. My routine has become so simplified and I’m just glad that I have gotten to this mental space of gratitude and appreciation for all that is me. I hope the same for you friend.
