The 12227 / 12228 Mumbai Central–Indore Duronto Express is a Superfast Express train which belongs to Western Railway zone that runs between Mumbai Central of Maharashtra to Indore Junction of Madhya Pradesh in India.
It is the fastest train on the Mumbai–Indore sector. It averages 73 km/h as 12227 Duronto Express covering 829 km in 11 hrs 10 mins and 72 km/h as 12228 Duronto Express covering 829 km in 11 hrs 20 mins. The other train that connects Mumbai & Indore is the 12961/62 Avantika Express with an average speed of 68 km/h as 12961 and 64 km/h as 12962.
This train had its inaugural run on 26 January 2011. It was & still is a 2 days a week service. It is a fully AC train & uses LHB rakes.

When this train was introduced it was hauled by an Electric Loco Shed, Vadodara or Electric Loco Shed, Valsad-based WAP-4. Later on WAP-5 hauled it regularly. Now Vadodara-based WAP-7 locomotive hauls the train between Mumbai Central & Indore Jn. Most of the times the train has been seen with HOG-enabled WAP-7 loco. However occasionally the Vadodara-based WAP-5 loco also hauls the train.
The train will rake sharing with Mumbai Central – Hisar Duronto Express (12239/12240) & 22209/Mumbai Central - Hazrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express.

Mumbai Central (formerly Bombay Central, station code: MMCT) is a major railway station on the Western line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway, situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in an area known by the same name. It serves as a major stop for both local and intercity trains, with separate platforms for either. It is also a terminal for several long-distance trains including the Mumbai Rajdhani Express.
It is one of the five major terminal stations in Mumbai, the others being Mumbai CSMT, Mumbai LTT, Bandra, and Dadar. Trains depart from the station, connecting various destinations mostly across states in the northern, western and north-western parts of India. The station was renamed from Bombay Central to Mumbai Central in 1997, following the change of Bombay to Mumbai. In October 2017, Western Railway announced that the station code would change from BCT to MMCT on 1 February 2018.

Indore Junction (station code: INDB) is one of the Railway junctions in Madhya Pradesh and serves Indore, the commercial capital of Central India. The railway station of Indore Junction BG (future Indore Central) falls under the administrative control of Western Railway zone of Indian Railways. It consists of six main railway platforms. The Ujjain–Indore route and Indore Junction was electrified in 2011. The Station is located 1 km away from the city centre. It is one of the ISO Certified Railway Stations of India. Currently the railway station has six platforms, where the first four platforms are situated in the main station and platforms 5 and 6 is situated 1.5 km away near Kamla Nehru Park, Indore.
The Indore Junction is connected with Ujjain Junction to the north west, Mhow Cantonment to the south, Dewas Junction to the north and Khandwa Junction to the south east. Being a junction station, it is well connected to Jaipur, Howrah, Kota, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Rewa, Gadarwara, Betul, Katni, Chhindwara, Khandwa, Ratlam and Bina within the state.
The station is well-connected to major stations of India such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kota, Dehradun, Kolkata, Jodhpur, Jammu, Bilaspur, Pune, Bangalore, Udaipur, Jhansi, Amritsar and Patna.
