Moving to Norway Episode 7 - Hjem

StoryGuide Podcast 1 years ago

Description

After three years, three rentals, and more stair climbing than I care to admit, it was time: we decided to buy a home in Bergen.

In this episode, I look back at the homes we've lived in—each one a stepping stone, and each with its own quirks (including one where the sun disappeared at 4pm). I also walk you through the wildly different world of buying property in Norway, where the bidding happens by text, open houses are more like speed dating, and the process is fast, fierce, and very, very final.

When it came time to buy, Darcy was 2,000 kilometers away on a boat to the Arctic. I was alone, on the phone, trying to make a bid in a language I barely speak… on a house that was beautiful and broken in equal parts.

It’s a story about light, layout, and learning how to build a life one visning at a time.
