Mononoke Forest (Koke no Mori) - Nagano - もののけのもり (苔の森)

Description

Deep in the Kita-Yatsugatake Mountains of Nagano lies Koke no Mori (Moss Forest), a place often nicknamed the "Mononoke Forest" because of its resemblance to the mystical forests depicted in Princess Mononoke.

Covered in a thick carpet of emerald moss, this ancient forest feels untouched by time. Twisted trees emerge from the mist, soft light filters through the canopy, and every step reveals a landscape that seems suspended between reality and legend.

Near the end of the forest, a pale fallen tree appears through the mist. Its shape recalls the antlered silhouette of the Forest Spirit from Princess Mononoke, resting silently among the moss and shadows. For a brief moment, it felt as though the guardian of the forest was watching from within the trees. Whether coincidence or imagination, it was a fitting farewell from Nagano's Mononoke Forest.

This video is presented without narration or music, allowing you to experience the sounds, atmosphere, and rhythm of the forest as if you were there yourself.
