Description
It is no coincidence that this Northern Soul classic has that Detroit aroma about it, even though it was arranged by studio prowess of the great Arthur Wright. The Motor City association comes by way of the Robert Staunton, who by 1968 had worked with most of Detroitโs most-influential.
With this session still under the control of Ed Wingate, owner of Golden World / Wingate records etc. with Myto publishing. Purchased by Motown Records in their need to quell the threat of their neighbors ever increasingly stylish catalog.
This sounds like, every note a Detroit influenced session with the added ingredient of Los Angeles master of the potent arrangement. The mysterious Shawn Robinsonโs vocal carried along on a wave of insistent Arthur Wright vibes, punctuated by searing horn blasts. With Shawnโs imploring voice, stating her case of dependable fidelity, before one of Northern Soulโs greatest horn breaks, bridges the song parts..
THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL!!! and everybody just loves it.
