Mid June Gardening Update..Onion Disaster!!!

Allotment Diary Video 1 months ago

Description

A veg growing update from the Allotment in mid June.
The weather has been atrocious, with nothing but wind and rain for the last month and temperatures well below the norm.
In the polytunnel the lettuce are growing really well away from the elements.
Outside the peas are growing well as they love rain, as does the rhubarb.
The leeks have settled in well now and are growing well.
The garlic and spring onions are doing well an I've harvested the first of them.
The carrots too are looking good as are the parsnips.
The potatoes in containers are growing well and Ive not had to worry about watering them as we have had over 6 inches of rain in the last 2 weeks,
But the we move onto the onions.
Most of the red onions have already gone to seed and some of the normal ones are starting to go to seed too.
this is unheard of in my 30 years of growing onions and I can only put it down to poor quality stock, as we haven;t had any extreme weather compared to previous years.
So beware who you buy your seed and sets from.
The bigger the company doesn't necessarily mean they sell better stock.
