Flying Home: Scarlet Macaw documents the return of the Scarlet Macaw to Palenque, Mexico, 85 years after the species disappeared from the region.
Set against the landscapes of Chiapas, the film follows a conservation project developed over more than 20 years, tracing the key stages of breeding, protection, care, and release. Through expert interviews, historical re-enactments connected to the Mayan era, and striking footage of the birds entering their natural environment, the documentary captures both the scientific process and the emotional weight of bringing a lost species back to its former habitat.
As the first reintroduction project of its kind in Mexico and one of the first in the world, FLYING HOME: SCARLET MACAW presents a significant story of wildlife conservation, ecological restoration, and the long effort to return one of Mexico’s most emblematic birds to the skies of Palenque.
