It's time to Meet some Strange Spheres (also known as Exoplanets) with Vincent and the Nirks®! Kids, Learn about outer space and astronomy with the Nirks! Vincent and the Nirks are back for their newest outer space adventure! Strange Spheres! Exoplanets are planets that orbit other stars in solar systems beyond our own. These exoplanets are very strange! Some are, newborn babies, some are young and free! Others have a tail or even two tails! Some are forbidden, some are disintegrating, and some even rain down diamonds! Plus 2 exoplanet hunters! Join Vincent as he takes you way out into the cosmos to meet some of the strangest and most bizarre planets discovered outside of our solar system! Enjoy exploring the cosmos with Vincent! A fun and exciting musical way to learn about astronomy and science. Let's see who we meet!

Lyrics:

Out Beyond the 8 planets that you already know
There are many more solar systems to explore and we should go
Different stars that have their own planets and their own solar systems
Would you like to go with me and see if we can meet some?

I’m PSR J2322-2650b
One of the weirdest planets found yet, I’m shaped like a lemon you see
I orbit a pulsar very closely, and it distorts my shape drastically
I’m also so carbon rich in my atmosphere that it rains down diamonds on me

I’m just a baby exoplanet, or protoplanet, called WISPIT 2b
I’m the makings of a gas giant planet, gathering material from my K-type star’s ring of debris
Already 5 times more massive than Jupiter and still growing as I sweep up more and more material to me
And could another protoplanet be forming here too, a younger sibling, named WISPIT 2c?

CHORUS

An extremely large rogue planet candidate, or a brown dwarf candidate, It doesn’t matter to me
I’m called Proplyd 133-353, and I am young and free
Around 8 times larger than planet Jupiter and much more massive too
Surrounded by a photoevaporating disk, I’ll remain a mystery to you

It’s really hard to hear or see, because it is so windy on me
I have extremely powerful supersonic winds, I’m called WASP-127b
My winds reach speeds of up to 33,000 kilometers per hour, nearly 6 times faster than I rotate
I’m large like Jupiter, but much less massive, making me puffy, and with winds that will never abate

I’m Tylos, A tidally locked Ultra-Hot Jupiter with TWO helium tails, I’m a rarity
One tail is pushed back by radiation and stellar winds and the other pulled forward by my star’s gravity
Leaking gases as I whip around my star every 30 hours, and so close that my atmosphere is heated to 4,200 degrees
These scorching temperatures heat up elements in my atmosphere, so that it rains liquid iron on me

CHORUS

They call me the Forbidden Planet, a Neptune-sized planet named NGTS-4b
With a 1.3 day orbit around my K-type star, I orbit very closely
I’m in a region called the Neptunian Desert – a place where no Neptune-sized planets with atmospheres should exist
But, I’ve kept my atmosphere from being taken by my star, probably because I have a supermassive core helping me resist

2M1510 (AB) b, The Oddball that’s me
A Tatooine-like world, like in Star Wars, I orbit not one, but 2 stars you see
But, I’m orbiting 2 brown dwarf stars, which is odd but makes me more unique
And, I like to be different so I orbit my stars in a polar orbit or vertically

CHORUS

I knew I shouldn’t orbit so close to my star, because its extreme temperatures are disintegrating me!
A rocky, lava world shedding mount Everest sized amounts of material every orbit, and I’m only about the size of Mercury
The material I shed leaves a long comet-like tail stretching over half of my orbit behind me
If I continue shedding at this rate, I’ll be gone in about a million years! I’m BD+05 4868Ab

I’m HIP 67522 b, where a year on me only lasts one week
My star and I have a powerful destructive bond, I interact with my stars magnetic field triggering flares on its surface you see
The flares then fire energy back at me, in radiation blasts
Causing me to inflate rapidly making me as big as Jupiter though only 5% it’s mass

We’re not exoplanets, no, but we hunt for them, that’s how we get our kicks
I’m Pandora, a new satellite designed to study exoplanets and their stars, I launched in January, 2026
I’m PLATO a new space telescope due to launch in December 2026
Both of us will improve the odds of finding and studying exoplanets, and maybe even find where other life exists

Now you’ve met some exoplanets – they orbit other stars
In their very own solar systems far outside of ours
Strange and mystical worlds with wonders beyond imagination
Keep looking at the stars and maybe you’ll discover one
