In this special conversation, we sit down with the incredible Pacific creatives and cultural leaders who helped shape Disney’s Moana live action, including Dr. Grant Muāgututiʻa (Lead Consultant, Cultural Trust), Tiana Nonosina Liufau (Choreographer & Associate Producer, Cultural Trust), Kayla Faʻamaligi (Assistant Choreographer, Cultural Trust), and Opetaia Foaʻi (Original Songs by).
From cultural consultation and language, to traditional dance, movement and music, they share the importance of ensuring Pacific stories are told with care, authenticity and respect.
Dr. Grant Muāgututiʻa, a Samoan linguist and cultural practitioner, discusses his work supporting the film’s cultural foundations and preserving the languages and traditions that connect Pacific communities across generations.
Tiana Nonosina Liufau and Kayla Faʻamaligi share their journey bringing Pacific movement and choreography to life, blending ancestral knowledge with cinematic storytelling while creating space for Pacific performers and young creatives.
Opetaia Foaʻi, the legendary songwriter and frontman of Te Vaka, reflects on his decades-long journey sharing Pacific stories through music, from the original Moana soundtrack to the live action film.
