Making a veg tan leather guitar strap

Music is a big part of our everyday life, so a friend talked me into making a leather guitar strap for his guitar ( I think he quite fancied mine I had made). This leather guitar strap template is available below so you can easily make one too. It is a great weekend leather craft project and can be a great leather gift idea.

I used my older leather guitar strap I had previously made to model this leather guitar off of. I used natural bridal vegetable tanned leather for this strap. I like the tan look this natural leather will eventually patina to, but you might prefer a rich dye colour.

I used my chartermade pattern knife to do most of the leather cutting. The pattern knife is designed for those long straight cuts without having to pull on the leather. There is no hand stitching needed for this design so it is an easy leather project to get started and finished.

I always like to finish off my edges by burnishing them. I do this by rubbing down the edges with my old cloth (this cloth has finished off many a leather project) with some special natural leather wax. I just couldn't decide whether or not to put an edge detail on the strap, its never too late to add a detail like that so let me know what you think in the comments.
