This video series, “Mainely Resilient: How Maine Farmers Stay Profitable,” highlights Maine farms using U.S. Department of Agriculture programs to manage farm risk.
In this video, Chris Howard, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, speaks with Chuck and Holly Noyes, co-owners of Noyes Farm in Albion, Maine. The Noyeses discuss using the Emergency Relief Program, formerly known as the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus, and the Disaster Relief Program Insurance to strengthen their business.
They also highlight:
- Establishing a good relationship with the USDA
- Reporting acreage to the USDA
- Managing debt load
- Networking with experienced farmers and agricultural service providers
