Description

Good planets are hard to find. And we´re living on Planet Earth as if we had another one to go to.

Protecting our environment is the right thing to do, and ES COLLECTION is stepping up and doing its part.
We are based in Barcelona – a city located by the sea, and surrounded by many bio-diverse areas - it has always been conscious concern for the company to help ease or eradicate the factors that negatively affect our immediate environment.

Meeting our customer desires while following our environmental path has led us to many proactive projects in this regards: from recyclable bags and garment packaging, to a large range of product lines which are wholly made from recycled material – specifically material threads created from discarded plastic bottles and other plastic waste found in the Mediterranean Sea.

Partnering with Plastiks.io helps us play a part in the global attention needed for environmental and Planet Earth care. Because … it´s the only place we can call home.

ES Collection is actively supporting various plastic recovery projects in different parts of the world:

GRAVITY WAVE (Mediterranean Sea area)

Only in the Mediterranean Sea (THE MOST POLLUTED SEA IN THE WORLD), 0.57 million tonnes of plastic enters its waters. This is equivalent to dumping 33,800 plastic bottles into the sea every minute. Without action, this number will keep growing as plastic waste generation in the region is expected to quadruple by 2050. If this happens, we will have more plastic than fish by that year and we are not going to allow it.

They clean the plastic from the seabed and transform them into long-lasting design products and high sustainable value, through a circular economy process. In addition, we prevent the plastic that already exists (specially fishing nets) from ending up back in the waters.

They do it through a +4000 fishermen network around different mediterranean countries (Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Egypt..) to which we pay for every kg of plastic they take out from the sea.
On the next step, we use both oceanbound and coastal prevention plastic to build an incredibly resistant and beautiful material which is perfect for furniture and decoration use.

SECOND LIFE (Thailand and Indonesia)

Their goal is to cover all island territories in Thailand and Indonesia, with a goal to collect and recycle 50,000,000 kgs per year from these beaches and island communities. To date, they have already collected and recycled 2,000,000 kgs and our network continues to expand.
Second Life is a market-based solution that supports informal collectors on remote islands. Collecting plastic from islands and beaches is a labour intensive process, with high costs associated with delivering ocean plastic back to the mainland to be recycled (e.g. boat fuel costs per delivery).

By giving value to this plastic waste, and helping pay for these extra costs (e.g. boat fuel), Second Life has established a network of ocean plastic collectors on these islands. Often coming from vulnerable and impoverished communities, collecting and delivering this ocean plastic to be recycled is not only a great way to keep their environment clean, but also another source of income and livelihood.

All deliveries of waste are recorded, with pictures of delivery and receipts of evidence and payment taken upon each daily delivery by collectors. Second Life is also the 1st plastic project independently audited and certified under the Plastic Waste Reduction Standard, the only global plastic collection and recycling framework by environmental standards organization Verra (https://verra.org/verra-issues-first-plastic-waste-reduction-credits/).
Second Life was featured as part of a National Geographic Archive documentary "Full Circle" (2022).
