This makes metal slimes from Dragon Quest look like nothing.
This is achieved by encountering Lava Man in Mt. Zublo (the volcano) and throwing fire attacks at him over and over again (Molotovs work too). Each time you use a fire attack on Lava Man, he powers up, along with increasing the amount of EXP he yields.
This is easier done when everyone has fire protection, such as AsbestosArmr, Fire Rings, and FlameBlock inoculations, etc. Then you only have to worry about him one shotting you with a physical attack.
Lava Man is pretty hard to beat with physical attacks once hes super powered up, but ice attacks, such as Ice Breath or Ice Blast work well... if you can act before he does. Icicles aren't terribly effective, but they are also an option (Buyable at Junk Town, or earlier in the game at the arena)
