Description
Minnesota's Katie McCarthy made history in more ways than one on Night 1 of the 2026 US SCM World Trials. She became the first athlete to swim in a race at a US Short Course Trials and the first athlete to qualify for the US Short Course Worlds roster via Trials. McCarthy did it by herself, as she was the only competitor entered in the women's 1500 Free. Nevertheless, McCarthy got the job done, touching at 16:10, well below the World Aquatics 'B' Standard of 16:31 that she needed in order to be the US's lone qualifier.
