Jerusalem has been fought over for thousands of years. It is sacred to three major religions, claimed by competing peoples, and repeatedly placed at the center of international controversy. But why does this ancient city matter so much—and what does Bible prophecy reveal about its future?

Jesus Christ described a coming time of unprecedented trouble so severe that, unless He intervened, no human being would survive (Matthew 24:21–22). The prophets foretold that armies would surround Jerusalem, the city would come under foreign domination, and the nations would ultimately gather for a final confrontation with their Creator.
The Bible calls this climactic conflict “the battle of that great day of God Almighty” (Revelation 16:14). The armies gather at the place called Armageddon—or Har Megiddo—before moving toward Jerusalem, where Jesus Christ will return in power and glory.
But Armageddon is not the end of the world.
It is the culmination of mankind’s rebellion against God and the beginning of an entirely new age. Jesus Christ will intervene before humanity destroys itself, defeat the forces opposing Him, and establish the Kingdom of God over every nation. He will rule as King of kings and Lord of lords, bringing justice, righteous government, and lasting peace to the earth.
The prophetic Day of the Lord is central to understanding these events. It is not merely a day of the week or a single 24-hour period. It is a future period of divine judgment during which God will humble rebellious nations, intervene directly in world affairs, and prepare the way for Christ’s rule.
