I’ve put Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro head-to-head with the iPhone 17 Pro to find out exactly what has changed and whether those upgrades actually make a difference in real-world use.
In this detailed comparison, I test the new A20 Pro against the A19 Pro using Geekbench 7 and 3DMark, including a 20-minute GPU stress test. I also compare battery life, charging speeds, displays, cameras, low-light photography, 4K video and Apple’s new variable-aperture Main camera.
And the performance results are seriously impressive.
My 3DMark Wild Life Extreme testing showed the iPhone 18 Pro delivering around 45% higher peak graphics performance, while the stress test showed it maintaining roughly the same stability as the 17 Pro despite delivering considerably higher performance.
But performance isn't the only upgrade.
I also test the iPhone 18 Pro's new variable-aperture camera at f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4, compare the Main, Ultra-Wide and Telephoto cameras, and see whether the improvements are actually noticeable compared with last year's iPhone 17 Pro.
