Here's how to gain a ton of XP with an easily repeatable glitch using Labors (recorded 4/21 patch 1.11, tested to work on 1.17!)
1 - Find a Labor you are about to complete
2 - Complete the labor mid-combat for the XP bonus
3 - Pause, unpause
4 - Die to reset to last checkpoint
5 - repeat the process!
