A Midlands man who admitted he targeted a Black neighbor because of his race was sentenced Thursday to nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a federal civil rights hate crime.
U.S. District Judge Mary Geiger-Lewis sentenced 34-year-old Jonathan Felkel to 108 months in prison, the maximum sentence under the federal guidelines in the case. During the hearing, the judge said the punishment should serve as a deterrent to others motivated by hate.
