Description
With food safety on many people's minds, Lee Health Registered Dietitian, Stacy Macko, from the Healthy Life Center - Coconut Point is here to share a few easy tips for washing produce before it reaches your plate. 🍽️🍎
Always be sure to wash your hands first for at least 20 seconds, rinse fruits and vegetables under cool running water, keep a clean workspace, and avoid cross-contamination. 🥩
For lettuce and leafy greens, remove the outer leaves, separate the remaining leaves, rinse them under running water, and dry them with a clean towel or salad spinner. For items with a hard exterior (i.e., apples, cucumbers, potatoes), use a clean produce brush while rinsing. 💧
These simple steps can help reduce germs, but remember, washing doesn't remove every contaminant. Stay up to date on food recalls and food safety alerts, and enjoy your fruits and veggies safely!
