Description
Follow along with this step by step video tutorial on how to cut and polish gemstones using materials that you can find around the home, at your local hardware store or easily sourced online.
What you need:
-Cerium oxide and/or Diamond polishing powder (50,000 grit works well)
-Small containers for mixing the polishing powders
-A chopping board (or something similar)
-Wet and Dry Sandpaper in 4 different grits (the tutorial uses 240, 600, 1200 and 3000 grit)
-If your piece requires a lot of shaping you may want to add a very course grit sandpaper at the begining (I use 60 grit in the tutorial)
-A clean cloth
-Tap water
-Oil (I use baby oil in the tutorial)
-Elastic bands
-Self adhesive felt
-A flat piece of wood to mount the felt
