Changing your 3% cash back category on the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card is simple, but choosing the right category can make a big difference in how much cash back you earn.
In this video, I walk through the full process inside the Bank of America app, including how to select your Cash Rewards card, open the Cash Rewards and Benefits section, tap View/Redeem, and find the View/Change Choice Category option.
I also show how Bank of America lets you compare your spending across different categories, including online shopping, gas and EV charging stations, dining, travel, drugstores, and home improvement. Instead of guessing which category you spend the most in, you can use your actual 12-month spending data to make a smarter choice.
You will also learn how the $2,500 quarterly cap works. Your 3% choice category and 2% grocery store and wholesale club categories share one combined $2,500 spending limit per quarter. After you hit that limit, those purchases may drop to 1% cash back until the next quarter starts.
I also explain how often you can change your Bank of America 3% category. You can usually change your choice category once per calendar month, and the new category applies to new purchases after the change takes effect.
If you have more than one Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card, you can also use each card for a different 3% category, such as online shopping, gas, dining, or travel, to help maximize your rewards.
