📌A few clarifications and corrections to the video:
• Terminology (~9:00): what I call the "wheel"/"bar" is more precisely
the axle/roller.
• Cost: because each spiral escalator is custom-built for its specific
site — and is far more complex to install than a standard escalator —
the installed cost can run roughly 10–20× that of a regular linear
escalator, depending on the project.
• Number in the U.S.: there are actually 18 spiral escalators installed
in the United States. The most famous are the four at the Forum Shops
at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
• The first spiral escalator was not installed in Osaka — it was actually in Tsukuba, Japan, but
that mall has since closed. Osaka has the oldest one still in operation today. (Many were installed throughout the 1980s)
• The spiral escalator labeled as Macao, China is actually at the Wynn in Las Vegas (picture at the end of the video).
