So here it is—an old chicken tractor that, honestly, has seen better days. The wood’s rotted, the frame’s warped, and most people would’ve tossed it on the burn pile. But out here, you learn pretty quick that usefulness isn’t always about looks—or longevity.
We needed a quick solution to separate a few hens who were getting picked on. Nothing fancy, just something to give them a breather. And this old piece of junk? Well, it stepped up.
I threw on a few scraps, reinforced what I could, and gave it one more round of purpose. It may not win any beauty contests or last another season, but for right now—it works. And sometimes, that’s enough.
That’s kind of the rhythm of homesteading. Things break. Plans change. And not everything is picture-perfect. But when you can look around, use what you have, and keep moving forward—that’s when the real growth happens.
Whether it’s an old coop, a rough patch of land, or just a tough day, there’s value in rolling with it. Making the best out of what’s in front of you. And finding purpose, even in the things most would leave behind.
