Higher Extensions to the Front | Train Like a Ballerina

Train Like a Ballerina Guide 2 months ago

Description

Why your front extensions feel stuck: you may be compensating through your lower back.

This seated externally rotated leg lift is one of the best exercises for improving
développés because it helps assess and build:

• Hip mobility
• Hamstring flexibility
• Hip flexor strength
• Core stability
• Extension control

If you notice your spine collapsing backward as your leg lifts, your body is telling you that you need more mobility, flexibility, or strength before forcing a higher leg.

Form tip:
Keep your hands behind you for support, lift through your chest, and focus on moving from the hip, not your spine.
Use this exercise 2–3 times per week after your warm-up or before extension work.
