Since its inception Witch House as a genre has evolved far beyond its original sound. Its now an umbrella term for a wide variety of styles. While it may seem silly to sub-genre and already niche genre of electronic music it still helps when sharing music and discussing how Witch House has branched off into all these different styles. When I think of Witch House as an aesthetic in name only, imagery of witches, paganism, rituals and cults naturally come to mind. Thats why I find this style, Folk Witch House to be the closest thing to what it would sound like when describing the genre if we take the name to heart. Ive said before that witch house is basically Trap music for goths in its simplest terms. But I often see discussions that witch house has nothing to do with witches and that none of the artists practice witchcraft, except for me this is actually what peaked my interest in exploring these topics, as a visual content creator I love the amalgamation of this music and everything associated with the genre. Its for that very reason Ive used so much of it in my videos over the years along with my fascination with horror movies. Hexenbrenner is my truest vision for combining all of these things.
Folk Horror: A Sub-genre of Horror that often involves rural or remote settings that create feelings of isolation. The aesthetic and tone is what sets this style of horror apart from others. Nature tends to play a crucial role, stories rooted in old world traditions, and superstitions followed by communities with skewed moral beliefs. Themes of witchcraft, secret cults, ancient customs, paganism and religions others that extent beyond the realm of Christianity are defining backdrops for this genre. Essential viewing for Folk Horror include Witchfinder General, Blood on Satan's Claws, The wickerman and my personal favorite Mark of the Devil.
