Description

The Harley-Davidson V-Rod (VRSC) remains one of the most polarizing and innovative chapters in the history of American motorcycling. Launched in 2002, the V-Rod was a radical departure from Harley-Davidson’s century-long tradition of air-cooled, pushrod V-twins. Developed to attract a younger, performance-oriented audience, it represented a strategic attempt to future-proof the brand against tightening emissions and global competition.
Engineering the Revolution
At the heart of the V-Rod was the Revolution engine, a 1,131cc (later 1,247cc) 60-degree V-twin co-engineered with Porsche. Drawing technical inspiration from the VR1000 superbike program and the long-shelved Project Nova, the engine featured liquid cooling, dual overhead cams (DOHC), and a high 9,000 RPM redline. Delivering roughly 115 to 123 horsepower, the V-Rod offered a smooth, high-revving experience that shattered traditional cruiser expectations.
