Okra grows very well in pots and is one of the easiest vegetables for home gardeners. Choose a large pot with good drainage and place it in a sunny location where the plant receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Fill the pot with a nutrient-rich soil mix, preferably using garden soil and well-rotted cattle manure or compost. Soak the seeds for a few hours before sowing to improve germination, then plant them about 1 inch deep. Keep the soil slightly moist until the seeds sprout, which usually takes 4–7 days.
As the plants grow, water regularly and feed them occasionally with organic fertilizer or seaweed extract for healthy growth and better flowering. Okra plants grow quickly and start producing tender pods within a few weeks. Harvest the pods when they are young and soft to encourage continuous production. With proper care, okra plants can provide a fresh harvest for a long period even in small spaces like balconies or terraces.
