Through the Fire and Flames - DragonForce
Well that didn't take too long - only about 30 hours after release. I'm super relieved to have been able to FC this song so quickly, I was a bit nervous after my first playthrough. I spent probably a solid 12 hours yesterday and today playing this song, learning all the small intricacies and committing them to memory.
I gave up yesterday after about 10 hours, then hopped on stream with no facecam, no alerts, just gameplay and my microphone to grind this shit out. Turned out I really liked that, good vibes in there. I have an extended cut of this video on my second channel with my mic audio, as well as some pre and post FC footage, so if you wanna see how I reacted to getting this, go check out that video here: https://youtu.be/e4W8aoKCMIo
The lack of practice mode in this game is sorely missed on a song like this. There were a handful of sections that I really needed practice with, and the only way I could do it was just by reviewing the footage, or studying a rip of the chart in picture format.
Surprisingly, the synth part that leads into verse 1 never really gave me troubles. I was fully expecting that to be a problem part, given how this engine works and given my relative struggles with Beyond the Flame's blob in the solo. The really trouble parts ended up being at 5:22, 5:44, and even 5:06 at times.
5:06 was just a mental block thing. If I was on an FC run up to that point, my fingers just didn't want to cooperate. If I had already missed prior, it was an FC every time.
5:22 is my personal hardest section of this song, getting past this on an FC was a major hurdle. My method for this ended up being to break it down into smaller subsections and tap them. This is how I broke it down when talking about it with Alec: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1160957847711006842/1350498199542038538/Screenshot_20250315-1056062.png?ex=67d6f4f5&is=67d5a375&hm=4e04670fdc28da5babd485078a2b919dfa35e92ce004e61df6c737017f22f2ff&=&format=webp&quality=lossless The circled parts are the notes I tapped, and the blue highlight indicates an anchor.
5:44, What The, is just weird man. That's Acai's personal hardest part, and for me I could just brute force it by one-handing it. Somehow that was the most consistent method for me, even though I hated doing it, and doing it on an FC run was STRESSFUL.
My nerves were crazy after FCing past the solo, thankfully no post-solo chokes for me. I was very confident with every part after the solo and I just had to remind myself of that. The red snake in this chart is easy, they even give you a great transition into it. The little piece after the strumming isn't too bad. The outro ascending trips aren't too bad either, the only place I was worried about missing was right at the end where I have to transition back into strumming. I'm incredibly grateful I didn't miss there, I would've lost it.
TTFAF in Fortnite has been a really cool experience, very happy it's in the game now and the chart is fun. I was dogging on it a bit after my first couple runs because it's easier than the other official TTFAF charts, but I respect it.
Also, I got to play Through the Fire and Flames with Herman Li yesterday, that was a crazy experience that I'll never forget.
Thanks for watching, and for reading all this. Figured this would be an appropriate video to go more old school with; Just raw gameplay, no external audio or facecam, and a nice long yappy description.
