Senegal’s ex-president Macky Sall, who is campaigning to become the next UN secretary-general, is welcomed by supporters as he arrives in Dakar for a brief meeting with his successor. This is his first visit back to the country since leaving office in April 2024. His UN ambitions have drawn criticism from the current government, who have accused him of violent political repression during his last years in office.
