The RS200 was late to Group B with work to build the 200 cars required for homologation not beginning until the summer of 1985.
By September of that year it was clear the car would not make it in time for the 1985 RAC Rally so work focused on getting everything ready for 1986.
By the 31st of January 1986 the FIA had counted all cars and homologation was granted meaning the team could enter round two of the championship the Swedish Rally.
Unfortunately for Ford come May and Group B was cancelled so the team cut back its spending and only entered two more world championship events in 1986.
The RS200 was the best balanced thanks to its near 50/50 weight distribution and the best handling thanks to twin dampers and springs at each corner.
But lack of power and being heavier than the Peugeot and Lancia were against it. Had Group B continued 1987 would have been a different story with a 2.1l engine ready to go which would have taken power to around 550bhp and weight reduction planned.
