The locals were absolutely crushing fish while everyone else on the pier was trying to figure out what was going on. We came to this Destin, Florida pier expecting a normal morning of fishing, but after watching the guys who fish here every day hook up over and over again, we knew we had to pay attention.
In this episode, we’re fishing during my dad’s last trip before knee surgery and quickly learn that every pier has its own secrets. After a surprise giant remora to start the morning, we follow the locals’ lead, switch tactics, and start targeting pompano. Dad lands a beautiful pompano, then Brendon hooks a double pompano at the same time, turning a slow morning into one of the most memorable sessions of the trip. We finish the day by bringing our catch home and making fresh kinilaw for lunch.
