I found a broken Nikon D750 on Facebook Marketplace that was showing the "Err" code so I talked the seller down to $200 and rolled the dice.

Turns out the repair actually ended up being pretty simple (chapter marked in the video). The mirror was stuck a bit because a little mechanism had become disengaged (probably caused by a big drop at some point even though the camera doesn't appear damaged). So now I have a new toy and saved something from becoming e-waste that still had plenty of life left. Successful day!
