As we celebrate Black History Month and Black voices in our community, please enjoy this inspiring panel discussion on the importance of creating safe spaces and building community.

Hosted by FIDM Instructor Andre’ Barnwell and featuring special guests: TJ Walker, Co-founder of The Black Design Collective, Co-founder and VP of Cross Colours, and FIDM Instructor; Sasha Swedlund, FIDM Textile Design and Advanced Study Fashion Design Graduate and mixed media artist and fashion designer; and Rocky Rozier, President of FIDM’s Black Student Union (BSU) and Visual Communications Student.

The Black Design Collective is a non-profit organization that amplifies the influence of and creates opportunities for the community of Black fashion and costume designers. Headquartered in DTLA’s Fashion District, the BDC’s Creative Center is located in the New Mart and offers dedicated space for collaboration, design, digital pattern making and printing, cutting, and sewing, as well as a podcast recording studio, built-in runway, and event space with Bose sound system.
