Today it is Europe Day and we are happy to have YouTube Premiere of the video artwork and European peace song 'European Silk Road' and to announce that there will be released remixes by Matthew Herbert on June 2 and Sorenious Bonk on June 23.
The intention to make 'European Silk Road' was to bring hope and happiness to humanity in a world filled with conflicts. The video artwork is made by the film director and artist Helene Moltke-Leth and the original music is made by Hess Is More, Zoe Alpha and Josephine Philip.
Officially Europe Day is a day celebrating peace and unity in Europe on 5 May by the Council of Europe and on 9 May by the European Union.
Original the video artwork and European peace song 'European Silk Road' was made for
the cross-artistic and European project "European Silk Road App". A digital platform for artistic and creative expression, which is based on a vision of a European Silk Road. The project was initiated by the Callias Foundation in Berlin and is supported by the German Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes), which invited artists across Europe to give their take on perspectives on a European Silk Road.
More than 2,000 years ago, the Silk Road was an important link between civilizations in Asia, Europe and Africa – and a symbol of peace, cultural exchange and cooperation between the countries along the route. Today we have a Europe with Brexit, right-wing populism and refugee crisis(es), borders have even tightened in recent years, and the very idea of Europe has been called into question. With Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the fundamental understanding and value of the common European peace project is also attacked. But in the light of war and the climate crisis, the idea of a modern network of high-speed trains and green infrastructure with the European Silk Road has arisen.
