Espar D2 10,000hr Rebuild and Upgrades - Everlanders see the World!

Everlanders Video 1 years ago

Description

After traveling from the icy Arctic Ocean all the way to the southernmost point of South America, it’s time for some long-overdue heater maintenance. In this video, we tackle a full teardown and rebuild of our trusty Espar D2 Airtronic diesel heater, which has seen over 10,000 hours of runtime. Along the way, we walk you through the steps of cleaning out a carbon-clogged burn chamber, replacing the atomizer screen and glow plug, and refreshing the gaskets—basically everything we ignored for the past few years.

While we’re at it, we also make a few comfort upgrades to our heating setup. We extend the exhaust to vent out the back (where it belongs), and finally install a long-carried three-port valve to let us switch between diesel and kerosene on the fly. This mod was inspired by a particularly frigid and sticky situation in the Bolivian altiplano, where bad fuel nearly left us stranded. Now with a cleaner burn and some added versatility, we’re better prepared for whatever weather the Andes throws at us.

Join us in Mendoza, Argentina, as we wrench, troubleshoot, and zip-tie our way through this DIY project. If you're curious about overland vehicle heating, cold-weather reliability, or just like watching people fix things that aren’t technically broken (yet), this one’s for you. Huge thanks to our channel members for keeping us warm and caffeinated—especially when penguins are involved.
