Man I've missed you all.
Episode 17 ("The Crimson King") has been by far the most challenging episode yet, as we enter the arc where all characters are on horseback. Meaning their mouths change positions every. single. frame.
I could have over-relied on environmental shots, scenes where you don't see the characters speaking, and in general back down from the challenge. I didn't.
Instead, I motion tracked and composited almost every single shot in Episode 17. It took a lot of time, it was a TON of repetitive labor, but the end result looks incredible and doesn't compromise on the vision for this episode. Plus I can now take nearly any challenging shot the anime throws at me and composite it to make them say/do what we need them to. In non-technical terms, this means my editing power level is over 9000.
I learned a crap ton doing this and am now collaborating on making future composites with "Suitvest" (our excellent webmaster, Uriah B)! This should hopefully mean we can get these episodes out a lot faster, starting with 18 and up!
I'm really excited to show you all what I've been working on the past four months. It's good to finally be back!
